They care about making money.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I heard a speech by JFK somewhere about how the media is the only private business explicitly mentioned in the constitution and how they have utterly failed in holding their responsibility.  I can't comment on whether or not I agree with that without causing a huge debate about capitalism.  However, it is worth noting that most citizens are informed by the media.
